Sluggish

Apparently eating cupcakes all weekend makes me feel extremely sluggish and unmotivated to do anything.

Bailey feels the same.

Please let me sleep.

Yesterday I spent my day making and eating frosting. And then actually putting it on the cupcakes. I don't have any frosting tips, so I did it the classy way with a Ziploc bag.

I've been giving some to my neighbors since I have a ton, and having them all just sit around in my apartment simply means that I will eat them all.

Bailey was intrigued, but too tired to do anything about it.

Wha...huh?

And now...the Daily Artsy (seriously, name suggestions welcome. I'm too tired to come up with something else at the moment). I'm aware I missed it yesterday. So here are TWO to make up for it.

I dragged Nick to the beach earlier today, except the wind made it physically painful to stand on or near the sand. But it made for some pretty cool pictures.

Too windy for boats.

Deceptively sunny.

And now I'm off to...keep sitting on the couch. Will hopefully get around to laundry in a bit.

Dessert Friday #6...

...was homemade!

That's right. I made cupcakes. 24 of them.

And then I ate them.

No, I didn't. I think I would've died of sugar overdose. Actually, I haven't eaten a single one yet. I know. WHAT?! It was because I spent half the night making and eating these.

Caprese Baked Egg Cups from How Sweet It Is

These were insanely good. Nick made some chicken to go along with them. And that was our dinner.

Also some bread.

Yeah I already ate the chicken there...

I'm hanging out with some friends tomorrow and in a moment of heightened motivation I decided to bring cupcakes. I figured I'd make the cupcakes tonight, because I'm not sure if I'll have time during the day, and then make the frosting and frost them tomorrow. And so I started baking 24 cupcakes at 10pm.

I'm not sure if that was a smart decision.

The second batch is still baking, and I'm tired. And since I have no idea how to keep frosting in the fridge overnight (it always dries out, just a little bit), I'm using cream cheese frosting courtesy of Betty Crocker for our Dessert Friday this week. No complaints though, that stuff is delicious and I can eat it out of the jar with a spoon. Not that I've ever done that...

...definitely not.

Bailey spent the night living on the edge of her kitchen boundary, staring longingly into the kitchen because there were cupcake ingredients all over the counter.

I just want a tiny bit...

Eventually she gave up and ate her kibble.

Fine, I'll have my own food.

And then proceeded to stare at me remorsefully while I waited for the cupcakes to bake.

WHY CAN'T I HAVE ANY?

Update: the first batch FINALLY cooled enough to frost. Nick and I are so ridiculously full from the baked egg cups that we just shared a single cupcake. I might have gotten a little sprinkle-happy with it.

Wait. Just one second.

Well how about that. Uncanny.

The good thing about making my own cupcakes is, I can put however much frosting I want on it.

FROSTING

I'm off to succumb to my sugar crash now. Good night.

Oh wait. Not before a RETRO CAMERA PICTURE. That's right. I'm making this a daily thing. Because it's so cool.

Me. On the train platform, going home from work. Being ARTSY.

Maybe I'll call it "The Daily Artsy." I'll have to think about that.

Good night for real.

Going Retro

So.

It seems that I've found a new addiction.

I downloaded this Retro Camera app for my phone, which lets you put all these effects on the pictures you take (like Polaroid, etc.). I have been playing with this since yesterday afternoon.

And I feel so damn artsy.

Observe.

This is ART.

I ate this. It was good.

I drank this. It woke me up. Kind of.

I wore this. I should advertise for this watch.

This picture really creeps me out for some reason. But it's so artsy I couldn't resist.

Don't think Bailey escaped any of this.

Did you want me to pose?

Do I look good?

Alright. I'm still working on the Bailey pictures. The only downside is that the app doesn't use the built-in flash on my phone, so unless the subject is in direct sunlight (or the glaring fluorescent bulbs of my office building), everything gets a little dark.

Which might make it more artsy. I don't know.

You can expect tons of pictures like these for a while. This is way too much fun. How am I ever going to use a regular camera again?!

Rained Out

Yesterday had flashes of promising cooler weather, because you'd think that after it rained, things would cool down a bit. False. Nick and I went on a run after a slight downpour, and the temperature must have increased by at least ten degrees from the beginning of our not very long run to the end. Hot and humid. Clearly ideal running conditions.

Bailey spent the day flopping around on our couches.

How do you expect me to live like this?
Eventually she gave up on life and passed out.

My mom's work had a sailing party last night and she invited me to tag along, so despite the heat, I spent about 3 hours baking massive quantities of giant rainbow cookies, which I can now call "rainbow" because I actually made them with M&Ms.

They were really good, although the party itself got a little rained out. And by that mean...we camped out at the dock for 40 minutes at the beginning to dodge a storm, then it started pouring, so all 30 or so of us had to go under the deck into the cabin (I would like to say here that while the deck itself was quite spacious, the cabin underneath was not) to wait out the storm.

And then it was sunny.

But don't be fooled. Only an hour or so after that photo, we literally watched a storm cloud spit rain over Chicago while it chased us down. And then it was back down to the cabin.

It was fun overall though. It completely rounded out my weekend of extremely unhealthy eating. Not like I ever make too much of a conscious effort to eat healthy, because I usually eat whatever appeals to me. Because I'm a grown-up, dammit, and I'll eat cookies for dinner if I want to. Nyah.

There was a BBQ that we went to on Saturday, and then a red velvet cake at my parents' that same night. Just because.

:D
And now I'm off to have leftover red velvet cake that I stole from my parents my mother gave me. Oh yes.

Okay, I lied. I do make a conscious effort to eat healthy. It balances out my unending need for cupcakes and cookies.
